TalkingZone | Community Counselling Service

TalkingZone community counselling service provides support for young people not in mainstream education: home-educated, attending college or private school, and those up to their 19th birthday not in education or training living in the Newport. All these young people can access TalkingZone Community Counselling

This service is available online and face-to-face Tuesdays 9:00am - 5:00pm.

Support for Young People - aged 11-18 year old not attending mainstream school or any other education.

Types of problems that counselling can be used for may include:

  • Family difficulties and relationships
  • Relationships with friends
  • Losing someone you care about
  • Bullying
  • Lack of confidence
  • Anger
  • Behaviour issues
  • Physically hurting yourself
  • Feeling worried a lot of the time

Counselling offers:

  • A regular space and time to talk or think about worries or difficulties.
  • It helps young people explore their feelings and look at how they might want things to be different, by talking and using a range of activities.
  • Work with child developmental issues, resolving problems, improving relationships, making choices, coping with changes, gaining insight and understanding, growing as a person.
  • Counselling is private and confidential. That means anything the young person discusses with the counsellor stays between the young person and counsellor unless the counsellor assesses the young person to be at risk of serious harm. In the interests of child safeguarding, the counsellor has a statutory duty to pass on this information to the appropriate authorities.
  • It is carried out by fully qualified counsellors/therapists, who are checked by the Government Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), and work within a code of ethics and best practice.
  • Each counsellor/therapist works within a strict code of ethics, are provided with clinical supervision and managerial supervision on a regular basis.
